Quick-Step Muse Black Slate tile-effect laminate flooring has near-black slate colouring with subtle charcoal variation. Fine, layered stone-style markings give the dark surface depth, while the bevelled tile effect creates a defined floor layout.
The 8mm boards have a moisture-resistant HDF core, Scratch Guard surface protection and HydroSeal technology for resistance to surface water. Muse is rated AC4 and Class 32 for domestic and moderate commercial use. Four genuine pressed bevels define the panel edges and complement the tile effect.
Each panel measures 396 × 1200mm and fits with the Uniclic click system over a suitable laminate underlay. A pack contains four panels and covers 1.901m². The floor is priced per m² and supplied in complete packs, with the calculator showing the total coverage and order value.
Black Slate creates a bold, grounded base for both contemporary and classic interiors. The restrained slate pattern allows pale cabinetry and natural timber to stand out against the dark floor.
Suitable for indoor living rooms, dining rooms, bedrooms, hallways and kitchens, as well as moderate commercial applications within the Class 32 specification.
Bathrooms are suitable when the floor is installed and sealed to Quick-Step’s wet-area instructions. Use the specified compressible Foamstrip and Hydrokit at the perimeter, profiles and penetrations, plus Hydrostrip where required for matching skirting or scotia. Not suitable for showers, wet rooms with floor drains, saunas, pool areas or outdoor use.
Pair it with warm white walls, oak or walnut and simple metal fittings. Light rugs and upholstery balance the depth of the slate colouring, while matching black details tie the room together.
HydroSeal protects against surface moisture. Muse has a 72-hour standing-water limit under the manufacturer’s conditions. Remove spills promptly and follow the full installation and care instructions. This protection does not cover flooding, plumbing leaks or moisture rising from the subfloor.
Warranty: Quick-Step provides a lifetime residential warranty, defined in its conditions as a maximum of 65 years, and a 15-year residential water-resistance warranty. Commercial cover is five years under the standard conditions. Eligibility, exclusions, fitting and maintenance requirements apply. Read the complete Quick-Step laminate warranty.
Each pack contains four panels and covers 1.901m². Enter your required area in the Timberwharf calculator to see the number of full packs, total area supplied and order total.
Allow for cuts and waste when planning the floor. A 10% allowance is a useful starting point for a straightforward layout; your fitter should confirm the allowance for your room shape and chosen pattern. Add the allowance once and order the full project quantity together.
The pack contains four physical laminate panels. Tile divisions are part of the decorative design and may differ from the panel joints; the illustrated tile pattern does not change the pack quantity or coverage.
Preparation and fitting: acclimatise unopened packs flat for at least 48 hours in the installation area, at 15–25°C and 30–85% relative humidity. The subfloor must be dry, sound and suitably level. Use a suitable laminate underlay and the specified moisture barrier where required. Keep the floor floating, with expansion space as instructed; do not trap it beneath fixed kitchen units or other permanent fittings.
Underfloor heating and cooling: suitable with compatible low-temperature water or electric systems and the correct floor build-up. Keep the finished floor surface at or below 27°C. Follow the heating-system and Quick-Step commissioning instructions, choose an appropriate underlay and change temperatures gradually. Floor cooling requires dew-point and condensation control.
Cleaning: vacuum or sweep with a soft head, then clean with a well-wrung microfibre mop and a suitable laminate cleaner. Remove spills promptly, use entrance mats and protect furniture feet. Muse’s pressed-bevel, 15-year wet-warranty specification allows steam cleaning only under Quick-Step’s conditions: use a suitable cloth covering every steam opening, low power and continuous movement along the design. Never apply steam directly or leave the head stationary. Do not sand, oil or wax the laminate surface.
Tile layout: mix panels from several packs to balance the print variation. Quick-Step’s installation guide recommends a half-panel or quarter-panel offset for tile formats, subject to its joint-spacing and edge-cut requirements. Dry-plan the layout before cutting. These Uniclic panels fit as a floating laminate floor and do not require ceramic tile adhesive or grout.
Muse is tested to EN 13329 with an AC4 abrasion rating. Its thermal resistance is 0.055m²K/W before adding an underlay. Fire classification is Cfl-s1 with Quick-Step underlays. The flooring is antistatic, and the technical sheet lists EU Ecolabel, PEFC and Nordic Ecolabel certification.
AC4 describes abrasion resistance; it is different from the appearance grades used for real wood. Class 32 describes the intended use level. Select the underlay and complete floor build-up to suit the room, subfloor and heating system.
What is Quick-Step Muse Black Slate?
Black Slate is an 8mm tile-effect laminate in Quick-Step’s Muse collection. It has near-black slate colouring with subtle charcoal variation, with a decorative surface over a moisture-resistant HDF core. It is not ceramic, porcelain or natural stone.
How large are the panels?
Each panel measures 396mm wide × 1200mm long × 8mm thick. The visible tile pattern can include decorative divisions within a physical panel.
How many panels and square metres are in a pack?
Each pack contains four physical panels and covers 1.901m². The calculator rounds the required area up to complete packs.
Is Muse waterproof?
HydroSeal provides resistance to surface water, with a 72-hour standing-water limit under the manufacturer’s warranty conditions. Correct wet-area sealing is essential. Remove spills promptly; this does not cover flooding, plumbing leaks or moisture beneath the floor.
Can I use it in a kitchen or bathroom?
Yes, when installed and sealed to Quick-Step’s instructions. It is not suitable for showers, rooms with floor drains, saunas or pool areas.
Can it be fitted over underfloor heating?
Yes, with a compatible low-temperature system and suitable underlay. The finished floor surface must not exceed 27°C, and the full commissioning instructions must be followed.
Does it need tile adhesive or grout?
No. Muse uses Uniclic joints and a floating installation over suitable laminate underlay. Do not grout the click joints. Wet-area perimeter sealing is a separate requirement and must follow Quick-Step’s instructions.
Which laying pattern should I use?
Quick-Step’s installation guide recommends a half-panel or quarter-panel offset for tile formats. Follow the minimum joint-spacing and cut-panel dimensions, and plan the decorative tile divisions before fitting.
Can I use a steam cleaner?
Yes, only within Quick-Step’s conditions for its pressed-bevel, 15-year wet-warranty ranges. Cover the steam openings with a suitable cloth, use low power and keep the head moving. Never direct steam onto the floor or hold the head in one place.
Can I sand, oil or polish it like stone?
No. Muse has a finished laminate surface. Do not sand, oil, wax or apply stone polishing treatments; use suitable laminate care products.
